Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify what leadership styles and managerial competencies are employed by Korean senior pastors and to analyze the relationship between their leadership styles and managerial competencies. The 273 Korean senior pastors of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Korea (GAPCK or Hap-Dong) were analyzed. The Styles of Leadership Survey (SLS), the Pastoral Management Competencies Questionnaire (PMCQ), and a demographic questionnaire were used for this research. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA). and post hoc tests were utilized to identify the relationship between leadership styles and managerial competencies. The main findings of this study were as follows: (1) The major leadership style and the dominant leadership style of Korea senior pastors were 1/1 bureaucratic leadership; (2) The major managerial competency factor of Korea senior pastors was staffing; (3) There was no correlation between the leadership styles of Korean senior pastors and select demographic variables such as senior pastor's age, senior pastor's years in ministry and church size; (4) There was no correlation between the managerial competencies of Korean senior pastors and select demographic variables such as senior pastor's age, senior pastor's years in ministry and church size; (5) There was no correlation between leadership styles and managerial competencies of Korean senior pastors.
