dc.description.abstractThis dissertation examines the relationship of senior pastor leadership style and the job satisfaction of associate pastors in churches in Korea. In order to analyze leadership theories, the criteria of leadership have been formulated as nine components of leadership. With three components of transactional leadership and laissez-faire leadership, five components of transformational leadership were explored. Biblical leadership was presented in order to compare it with transformational leadership. From literature review, with all some dissimilarities, both leadership styles turn out to resemble each other. The major leadership components of senior pastors in mega-churches in Seoul and the surrounding areas in Korea were Inspirational Motivation, Idealized Influence-Attributed and Behavior. The data showed a significant correlation between the leadership styles of senior pastors and the job satisfaction of associate pastors in churches in Korea. The data showed there was a positive correlation between transformational leadership and overall job satisfaction. On the other hand, in the case of transactional and laissez-faire leadership, the relationship between leadership styles and job satisfaction was negative. A descriptive survey analyzed the relationship of senior pastor leadership style with the job satisfaction of associate pastors in churches in Korea. Survey instruments used were the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire, the Mohrman-Cooke-Mohrman Job Satisfaction Scale and demographic questions. Data were compiled and tables were used to display mean, percent and mode scores using the computer program Excel and SPSS. Four research questions were used to explore and analyze data obtained from the survey instruments. The correlation coefficient, Person ( r ) was utilized to examine relationship of senior pastor leadership style and the job satisfaction of associate pastors in churches in Korea. The correlation coefficient, Pearson ( r ) demonstrated some significant relationship between senior leadership style and job satisfaction of associate pastors. Recommendations were made concerning the need for senior pastors to display a transformational style of leadership as defined by the MLQ because the research results imply that it is effective to job satisfaction and church ministry.en_US
