Abstract
This dissertation examines D. James Kennedy's theology and method of evangelism. Chapter 1 analyses the need for this study of his evangelism theology and methods. Attention is also given to the dissertation's background, methodology, and limitations. Chapter 2 reviews Kennedy's significant experiences which influenced his theology and methods of evangelism. It traces Kennedy's brief biography, his conversion experience as his life-changing event, and his personal evangelism experience as his ministry-changing event. Chapter 3 examines Kennedy's evangelism theology. Attention is given to his understanding of the gospel message, conversion process, and the relationship between evangelism and each of the following: the Holy Spirit, Calvinism, the Bible, and the cultural mandate. Chapter 4 addresses Kennedy's evangelism method. An analysis of his evangelism methods, such as Evangelism Explosion and media evangelism, is included. Attention is also given to the cultural milieu around Kennedy's evangelism methods and the relationship between social action and evangelism. The final chapter of this study contains a summary of Kennedy's theology and method of evangelism. Practical implications are also suggested throughout this study.
