Abstract
ABSTRACT EQUIPPING BIBLE TEACHERS AT EAST WHITE OAK BIBLE CHURCH, CARLOCK, ILLINOIS, TO EMPLOY TEXT-DRIVEN APPLICATION Kendall David Coffman, D.Min. The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2016 Faculty Supervisor: Dr. Robert A. Vogel This project is an attempt to equip Bible teachers in the local church to employ text-driven application in their teaching. Chapter 1 defines the three goals of this project, the ministry context, and the rationale for the work. Chapter 2 seeks to establish a biblical and theological basis for equipping Bible teachers according to New Testament directives. This basis was accomplished by examining who the teachers are, what teaching involves, and how teachers are equipped. Chapter 3 seeks to establish a theoretical and practical method of application known as the principle-relational model. Various benefits of this method are discussed. Chapter 4 is a description of the project, which was comprised of a six-week expert panel approval of the teaching curriculum. This approval was followed by eight weeks of equipping in biblical application through an instructional course and directed practice. Finally, chapter 5 reveals the results of this ministry project. An analysis is also given of the project’s strengths and weaknesses, lessons learned, theological and practical implications, and personal reflections.
