Abstract
This work provides the framework to articulate the storyline of the Bible to middle and high school students, using the covenants as the organizing principle. Chapter 1 defines biblical theology and demonstrates why the covenants are crucial for constructing an accurate metanarrative of the Bible. Chapter 2 establishes the presence of a covenant in creation and shows the implications of the creation covenant for the rest of the story. Chapter 3 shows how the Noahic covenant stands in continuity with the creation covenant as well as advances the storyline forward. Chapter 4 focuses upon God’s covenant with Abraham and shows how it builds upon previous covenants and is also programmatic for the rest of Scripture. Chapter 5 explains the significance of God’s covenant with Israel and how it relates to previous covenants but was never intended to be permanent. Chapter 6 exposits the significance of the Davidic covenant and how the king would bring God’s promises to fulfillment. Chapter 7 highlights the prophetic anticipation for the new covenant due to the sin of Israel and their king. Chapter 8 concludes the project by showing how Jesus inaugurates the new covenant and gives his people access its promises.
